The “Industry City” project is creating a dense, compact commercial district on Frankfurter Ring, with production facilities and a hotel. Six different buildings form the spatial framework for the open space. The central element of the open space concept is the garden joint, which crosses the site diagonally and connects to the local traffic junctions. The garden joint functions as an identity-forming passageway for pedestrians and cyclists, along with accompanying green and lounge areas.
In the heart of the district, the new central square with park character is being built next to the historic building. Its symmetry is reminiscent of traditional English garden design and ties in with the history of Munich’s historic green spaces. A lawn sculpture invites you to stay and the multifunctional square area can be used in a variety of ways. The new square will be a meeting and place to stay where a wide variety of people can come together on equal terms. The spaces between the buildings and the large interior spaces that run through the buildings become secondary joints: cultural joint, event joint and industrial joint, each with its own character. They expand and connect the area with public space.
All in all, this creates a new, attractive city district with different scales and offerings, an exciting and attractive place to visit, work and enjoy.
