Different structures were developed by three architects’ offices in four construction areas. The heart of the Macherei is the central district square, a place where employees, residents and hotel guests meet and hang out. The individual structures are oriented towards the surrounding streets and the central square.
The quarter is connected to the surrounding streets via alleys. On the east side of the site, Macherei connects to the Echarding green strip in the south and the Baumkirchen-Mitte residential development in the north. The large, compact buildings stand on different carpets in the quarter. The variety of structures in the covering level creates different open space atmospheres in the heavily functional quarter.
The special feature of the quarter is a lively, versatile and intensively green roof landscape. It complements the open space on the ground floor. The roof landscape of the Macherei with sports facilities, panoramic terraces, urban gardening areas and outdoor workplaces reflects the diverse need for leisure and activity offers in the modern working world.
