The newly created Raingarden in the Grugapark pursues the goal of strengthening the connection between people and nature, promoting environmental awareness and creating a sustainable learning and teaching environment for students. The open space design takes into account the specific climatic characteristics of the location and creates an inviting spatial quality for visitors of all ages.
The garden will be designed in such a way that it collects water when it rains and makes it tangible. In heavy rain pupils can observe fish and amphibians, while when there is little water, birds can be accommodated on the gravel areas that have become free.
The design is based on the steps of the coloured terraces in the east and on the front area of the music pavilion in the west. The southern area of the Raingarden seamlessly connects to the crane meadow and creates flowing transitions to the adjacent areas of the park.
